The ‘after SERIES’* design studioS Builds on a decade (2011-2020) of explorations and research on typological and procedural explorations (TY.PRO.LOGY) amassed both in practice and academia through design studios and electives.

This subsequent evolution delves into a deeper inquiry into the nature of this specific design technique to which IS currently defined as:

‘the study of typological behaviours and, its associated histories and components, to its then subsequent dismantling, abstraction, augmentation and re-composition of sub-typological behaviours through procedural techniques as a means of testing possibilities for the evolution of nascent types and ideas, and for the production of novel architectural compositional matter. More recently, this has included investigations on what architectural conditions and effects might emerge from the simultaneous superimposition, collision and layering of multiple sub-typological dispositions - generating “typological ecologies” for design.’

***THE AFTER SERIES WAS FORMERLY KNOWN AS THE AFTER TYPE CHAPTER DESIGN STUDIOS.***

THE AFTER SERIES now peerS into other worlds and realities WITHIN MORE CONTEMPORARY MODES OF PRODUCTION, REPRESENTATION AND COMMUNICATION THROUGH gaming INTELLIGENCE, game engines, POPULAR CULTURE, ANIMATIONS, FILM, ANIME, MMOs, open-world environments and worlding.

THE AFTER SERIES IS LED BY RMIT ARCHITECTURE LECTURER PATRICK MACASAET.

WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL STUDENTS, CONTRIBUTORS AND COMMUNITY WHO HAVE GENEROUSLY CONTRIBUTED AND ENGAGED WITH THE RESEARCH AND PROJECTS.

RMIT MASTER OF ARCHITECTURE DESIGN STUDIOS

AT1: RMIT DOCKLANDS MEDIA PRECINCT
Semester 1, 2020

'A.T. Chapter: RMIT Docklands Media Precinct' is an industry-partnered Master of Architecture Design Studio (Sem1, 2020) with RMIT's Policy Strategy Impact Team contributing to RMIT's Location Strategy initiative. The studio explored three threads of investigations; Typological Procedural Explorations (Ty.Pro.logy) and Tertiary Learning Environments brought together to stimulate design discourse for RMIT’s Docklands Media Precinct.

A4: WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE
SemesteR 2, 2021

Where The Wild Things Are is the fourth iteration of the After series that seek to continue a deeper inquiry into the abstraction of typological behaviours and procedural processes - peering into other worlds and realities through game engines and film documentaries. Positioning infrastructural machine landscapes and climate change as a cultural idea, it asks what type of didactic and civic Imaginary Infrastructures could emerge through a critical interrogation of typological behaviours, gaming and worlding?

AT2: RMIT DOCKLANDS MEDIA PRECINCT
Semester 2, 2020

'A.T. Chapter 2: RMIT Docklands Media Precinct' is the second iteration of an industry-partnered Master of Architecture Design Studio (Sem1, 2020) with RMIT's Policy Strategy Impact Team contributing to RMIT's Location Strategy initiative. New in this studio was the focus on game engines and gaming particularly taking inspiration from highly immersive MMOs or Massive Multiplayer Online worlds and how these platforms allow us an alternative viewpoint and impact in the way we design, develop and materialise ideas.

AT3: DIDACTIC GEOGRAPHIES
Semester 1, 2021

Didactic Geographies is the third iteration of the AT Chapter series that seek to continue a deeper inquiry into the abstraction of typological behaviours and procedural processes - peering into other worlds and realities through game engines. Positioning infrastructural machine landscapes and climate change as a cultural idea, it asks what type of didactic and civic Imaginary Infrastructures could emerge through a critical interrogation of typological behaviours, gaming and worlding?
