AFTER TYPE CHAPTER 1:
RMIT DOCKLANDS MEDIA PRECINCT

'A.T. Chapter: RMIT Docklands Media Precinct' is an industry-partnered Master of Architecture Design Studio (Sem1, 2020) with RMIT's Policy Strategy Impact Team contributing to RMIT's Location Strategy initiative. The studio explored three threads of investigations; Typological Procedural Explorations (Ty.Pro.logy) and Tertiary Learning Environments brought together to stimulate design discourse for RMIT’s Docklands Media Precinct.

Subtitled, A.T. CHAPTER short for AFTER TYPE, this studio is the first of a new series that evolve a research exploration and interest on typology, procedural design driven processes and learning environments. The After Type Chapter is a mechanism to investigate, surface and develop critical design techniques through type and typology - not simply as an analytical tool. It challenges dilemmas and issues identified over the years through teaching, practice and research such as questions of legibility, the critical difference between behavioural abstraction of building projects versus specific typological behaviours, the value of examining other disciplines to develop a critical design language, typological ecologies and more.
